Using the Brackets

Overview

The internal structure of the case is effectively an open frame that utilises horizontal and diagonal brackets to mount hardware into the space. The horizontal brackets secure to the case along 8 rails using a captive bolt and provide a base for the diagonal brackets and other hardware.

The bracket itself is extremely simple, it has an opening width of 109mm (52.5mm across the 2 smaller spans) and secures to the case rails using bolts and nuts at either side. A plastic washer is used to reduce the possibility of the nut becoming loose.

Note that the case ships with clear soft washers installed. Replacing them with the harder black plastic ones is optional.

The SG10 already includes a number of horizontal brackets already attached to the rails. These are used to mount the diagonal brackets, PSU, Drives and Fans. Their position can be adjusted or removed entirely if not needed. More brackets can also be added by purchasing additional ones.

The bolt is installed in the rail via an opening, there are 2 on each rail. With the bolt installed in the rail, it can be moved to the desired location and then secured in place using the nut.

A total of 5 diagonal brackets are pre-fitted to the case, 3 for the motherboard and 2 for the graphics card. The brackets are all identical but configured slightly differently depending on their usage.

Hardware is mounted to the brackets using clips in pairs that attach either side of a bracket using screws.

Note that diagonal brackets can not mount to rails directly. They must first be mounted on horizontal brackets and have a dedicated mount for this.

M3 Screw

The clips help mount hardware to the brackets by providing a fixing point. The actual fixture can change, for example, with a motherboard, a HEX standoff provides the attachment, but the principle is for 2 clips to be used on either side of the bracket to lock in place using a screw.

Both the bracket location and clip position can be adjusted according to the position and location most suitable for the hardware being installed.

Summary

Horizontal Brackets
  • Mount directly to the rails
  • Used to mount things to the case such as fans and storage drives
Diagonal Brackets
  • Mount to the horizontal brackets
  • Primarily used for the motherboard and graphics card
  • Use clips as mounting points
